ECE 171 is in my opinion the hardest Undergrad Engineering class at UCSC. While ECE121 isn't nearly as hard it is certainly time consuming. I took 171 with Petersen and 121 with Elkiam so it may be different for you. Petersen is an intense professor to put it mildly.
