That would suggest (based on the number of wireless customers under the AT&T umbrella) a potential additional income of $84Million. The $30 "upgrade fee" is just another. mechanism for AT&T to extract money from it's customers. If she bought her phone from or through AT&T or upgraded with installments, her phone comes with a new SIM card, and therefore a $30 charge. If you don’t want to pay it, buy full price through a retailer like Best Buy.
